How Does Google Calculate a Business’s Star Rating?

Your public rating is essentially the mean of all your star ratings, shown rounded to one decimal place. Ten fives and two ones average 4.33, displayed as 4.3.

Google does not weight every review identically forever, very old or suspected-fake reviews can carry less weight or be filtered out, but for a normal business the simple average is a good mental model.

Because it is an average, the number moves slowly once you have lots of reviews. Early on, each review swings it noticeably.
